Keeping his secrets while protecting Maryse proves to be easier than fighting his attraction for the brainy beauty. Unfortunately, death doesn’t slow down Helena one bit.ĭEA Agent Luc LeJeune is wondering what his undercover assignment investigating the sexy scientist has gotten him into – especially as it seems someone wants her dead. The woman was rude, pushy, manipulative and used her considerable wealth to run herd over the entire town of Mudbug, Louisiana. The gist (from the publisher): Scientist Maryse Robicheaux thought that a lot of her problems had gone away with her mother-in-law’s death. There were only a couple of times where I got confused between Maryse and her best friend Sabine. In honor of Sunday – a day I reserve for reading and lollygagging – I bring you a short and sweet book review! Her accent felt natural and realistic and the characters were very well developed. Johanna Parker did a good job of narrating. Jana Deleon did a good job of letting the rules of the ghostly realm be explained in tune with the story’s progression. One of the better parts of this book is how unique the rules to the ghostly world are compared to other books. Maryse doesn’t rely solely on Luc in the book and I love that there is plenty of scenes between her and the other citizens of Mudbug. Nothing much really, but Helena claims she’s not going anywhere until she also solves a murder case – Helena’s murder! Maryse has so much on her plate already, like trying to serve her allusive husband with divorce papers, trying to avoid a sexy man who makes her think thoughts no decent woman should be thinking, and staying alive long enough to claim her inheritance. The combination of these two characters is really entertaining. Helena climbs out of the coffin at the funeral and Maryse is the only person who can see her because she’s a ghost.
